And now for the Rest of the Story...

Thanks for all the encouragement yesterday about finding the lost blog....LOL, But I've had no such luck?? So I will try this again today!

So...every year my 2 oldest children go to camp in West Virginia. They go to a special camp for kids with asthma~ called Camp Catch Your Breath. It sponsored by the American Lung Association, and a lot of companies and doctors donate the money to cover the costs. It really is a neat place. The camp grounds are on the site of Jackson's Mill. You can read more about the history here:
http://www.wvu.edu/~exten/depts/jmill/jmhist.htm
and here:
http://www.wvu.edu/~exten/depts/jmill/jmh_area.htm
The first year we took the kids, we took the 'tour' around the site and got to see lots of interesting things. As you will see I paid no attention in History class when I was in school and now, I could kick myself in the butt for it! Yea! I know Dad...I shoulda listened!!

So this is Jackson's Mill.....I had to lie down on the dock I was standing on to get this shot. I wanted the flowers in the picture, too!!

And here's a shot of the back side...

And the inside of that fireplace...This building had to moved across the river at one point, so they numbered the bricks to get them all back in the right place...interesting, huh?! *Don't forget to click on the pictures to make them bigger...

This was in the first building we went into....It's where they make yarn and weave.

And across from that is where they do the paper marbling...This would be neat to do in miniature!

Here's a shot of the outside of the Blacksmith's shop

...and a picture I took inside of the building....

...here's a picture I took inside of the mill...It's a scale.

I'm not going to repost all the pictures I posted yesterday...most were of the outside of buildings....But it got me thinking...

*They have a General Store, which also houses the Post Office. There's jams, old kids toys...postcards~ You know Souvenir stuff.......There's art, and a few portraits. It would be a neat way to add all the details you can't put elsewhere....Old money, Candy sticks on the front counter...

*Or what about a garden, They always seem to have a garden filled with lots and lots of veggies and herbs....

*You could do a carpenter's shop~ a place where furniture is built......

*Then there's the saw mill, the grist mill....lol, are they the same thing...or is one where they cut wood and the other for making flour?? My brain is tired this morning, lol......

*Or the Paper Marbling place...They used it for the insides of books..there's also candle making...

I hope these ideas help.....and I hope that no one minds that I'm all up in their business......LOL, Just trying to help here........ :)

~I have no minis to show you right now, haven't been feeling all to great......something tells me I'm starting to get a cold....or it's just my allergies? The weather here is crazy....90 one day...and 50 the next......Gotta love Virginia~ I've always said, if you don't like the weather...wait a minute, It will change, Hahaha!!!!

Ok....I'm off to finish some clay tiles I started last night...I only hope they come out the way I want them to....We shall see, either way I'll show you later.

Another pencil sharpener

Every year, I take my 2 older kids to West Va for summer camp. This year, we stopped by the Va Safari Park. It's a drive thru zoo, and we had a blast feeding and petting all the animals. As you can see, the zebra stuck his whole head in the car looking for a snack.
The kids go to a special camp for kids with asthma...this year the theme is Christmas in July
And the camp is in Jackson's Mill........that's the mill across the pond. I took this picture last year, but it's one of my favorite pictures.....so I thought I'd share.
They have a little general store on the grounds.......and I found a miniature!! It's some kind of loom for making wool.........And for the Otis fans..........See how he's sleeping? When I first walked in the room, all I could see was his feet hanging out...and looked like something bad had happened.............He was sleeping so hard, it took me a couple of minutes to wake him up~ Crazy Kitty!

Well, I'm taking a break today, but will be back soon with something crafty!
